Season 3 of “The Umbrella Academy” peaked at number one on Netflix’s most viewed English language series in the past week, surpassing “Stranger Things”.
Between June 20-26, “The Umbrella Academy” amassed 124.5 million streaming hours, while “Stranger Things” added just over 76.9 million. It should be noted that the new leader only debuted on June 22.
Season 4 of “Stranger Things” has spent four weeks on top since its release on May 27, amassing 930.8 million hours over its first 28 days. It is important to note that this is the total number of days that Netflix considers in its charts, but on Sunday “Stranger Things” completed 30 days on the air, meaning the last two days were not considered in the account.
Even within the limits of metrics, the creation of the Duffer Brothers is the most viewed English language series in Netflix history, with a big lead over the second season of “Bridgerton” (656.2 million hours). The overall record belongs to South Korean production “Round 6”, which accumulated 1.6 billion hours in the first four weeks.
Out of curiosity, seasons 3 and 2 of “Stranger Things” also appear in Netflix’s weekly Top 10, in 3rd and 4th place respectively, as well as season 1 of “The Umbrella Academy”, in 7th place.
The South Korean remake of “La Casa de Papel” tops the non-English language series chart with 33.7 million hours, a figure that represents less than 20% of the original series’ last season’s starting audience.
Finally, among the English language films, the leader of the week was the newcomer “The Man from Toronto”, directed by Patrick Hughes (“Double Explosive”), which amassed 53.8 million hours. “Spiderhead” and “Throwing High” complete the podium in this category.
