Does the film “Barbie” take place in Brazil?

A photo from the set of “Barbie” went viral in Brazilian audiences this Tuesday (6/28) for carrying a Brazilian flag and suggesting a familiar scenario.

The images show Margot Robbie (“The Suicide Squad”) and Ryan Gosling (“La La Land”) dressed as Barbie and Ken, running past a jewelry store that features an open Brazilian flag. In front of them is an elongated yellow banner that reads “Care” in Portuguese, next to the expression in English.

Faced with this, many began to question the film’s link with Brazil. Theories suggest that Barbie and Ken would be on Rua 25 de Março, on the run from the “turnip”, or on the Calçadão de Madureira, in Rio de Janeiro.

The scenes were actually shot in Los Angeles.

Although the premise is kept under wraps, there are indications that the film will have a metalinguistic plot, as Will Ferrell (“Double Dosed Dad”) will play the president of a toy company.

The massive cast also includes Simu Liu (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”), America Ferrera (“Superstore”), Kate McKinnon (“Ghostbusters”), Alexandra Shipp (“X-Men: Dark Phoenix”) and Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”) as unknown characters.

The film is directed by Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”), who also wrote the script with her longtime partner Noah Baumbach (“Marriage Story”).
