‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ will have a 6th movie, but it won’t be like the others: will Johnny Depp be there?

7 years after the last ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie, fans are still waiting for another installment and the Disney producer in charge of the franchise has news for them.

The new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies will be without Johnny Depp

Jerry Bruckheimer hinted at the future of the hit “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series in a recent interview with “ComicBook.com.”

When asked about the future of some of Disney’s most successful franchises, he mentioned that for “Pirates of the Caribbean” they are considering “hitting the reset button.” In other words, working on a ‘reboot’ instead of a continuation of the stories that have been told so far.

This decision was taken, he said, to facilitate the production of the film, since we would not have to wait for the availability of certain actors. While he didn’t mention any specific names, this leaves open the possibility that the saga’s core cast could completely change for the next installment.

Of course, since there are no further details about the plot or the direction the saga will take, an appearance by Johnny Depp as Captain Sparrow or the rest of the original cast cannot be completely ruled out.

What will be the next ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie?

Jerry Bruckheimer simply said that they are considering a reboot for the saga. He didn’t mention anything about a potential plot or the direction the potential new characters would take. In that sense, it’s too early to know what’s in store for the franchise.

We must remember that in recent years several ideas for the future of the franchise have been considered.

One project suggested Margot Robbie as the new lead, with Johnny Depp possibly returning. However, in November 2022, the ‘Barbie’ actress revealed to ‘Vanity Fair’ that the film had been scrapped altogether.

Another idea to continue the “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga involved a script by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott that promised to break all the molds.

In August 2023, Mazin told the Los Angeles Times that his script for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 was “so weird” that he was surprised Disney approved it: “We submitted it and thought there was no way. that they bought it, it is very strange, and they did! However, he also assured that due to the Hollywood writers’ strike, the project was on hold.

Currently, there is no information on plans for the next installment of the franchise.

Where to watch the entire Pirates of the Caribbean saga? The chronological order

All five films in the franchise are included in the Disney+ catalog.

If you’re interested in marathoning the movies, you might be happy to know that the chronological order of events is the same as when they were released, so you don’t have to switch between them.

  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: Tales of the Code” (short film, 2011)
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” (2003)
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” (2006)
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (2007)
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011)
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (2017)
