And the actor doesn’t seem to be against it… Gyllenhaal actually emphasized that he would be honored to play the Dark Knight.

“Batman is a classic. It would be an honor. Now I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington. I think of all the actors who have played the character before me, and it’s intimidating, and it’s the same with Batman. But of course it would be an honor, those roles are classics.”

Please note that Robert Pattinson, Matt Reeves’ Batman, is not part of the official DCU. It’s stand-alone movies like Todd Phillips’ Joker with Joaquin Phoenix.

From Marvel to DC?

The 43-year-old American actor has already played a Marvel superhero since he played Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019. If he had been cast as the Dark Knight, he wouldn’t have been the only actor to play the hero. In both worlds, the best examples are Christian Bale, who lent his features to Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy and Gore the Godslayer in Thor: Love & Thunder.

Apparently Jake Gyllenhaal isn’t the only actor whose name has been floating around among DC fans, as Alan Ritchson (Jack Reacher) and Jensen Ackles (The Boys) have also been mentioned.

While waiting to see who will lend his features to the new DCU Batman for Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold, Jake Gyllenhaal stars in Doug Liman’s action film Road House on Prime Video.
