“And if he wanted to tell that story with me, he’d be in.”
Could Christian Bale follow Michael Keaton’s lead and return as Batman? Well, the answer is more surprising than you think. Speaking to Screen Rant, while in the midst of promoting ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ where he plays the villainous Gorr the God Butcher, Bale admitted he would reprise his DC role, but only if he could reteam with The Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan..
“No. No one ever mentioned it to me. No one mentioned it.” Bale said about returning as Batman. “Sometimes people say to me, ‘Oh, I heard you were approached and offered all this.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s news to me. Nobody’s ever said that.’“.
The Oscar winner went on to highlight the only reason he would return.”THe had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s do three movies, if we’re lucky enough to do that. And then let’s go. Let’s not take too long.’ IMO, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell. And if you wanted to tell that story with me, I’d be in“.
Nolan’s Batman movies weren’t just critically acclaimed, they were also box office hits. Beginning with ‘Batman Begins,’ released in 2005, earning more than $371 million, ‘The Dark Knight’ made more than $1 billion in 2008.
It also earned Heath Ledger an Oscar for his iconic performance as the Joker. Finally, in the year 2012, ‘The Dark Knight: The Legend Rises’ closed the story and joined the billion dollar club, earning 1.081 billion at the international box office.

However, right now Nolan is focusing on other projects at the moment and has not been involved with Warner Bros since the premiere of his hit ‘Tenet’, which was the first big post-pandemic blockbuster in 2020; the British filmmaker is now at Universal working on ‘Oppenheimer’the film about the man who created the atomic bomb.
Although Keaton returns after 31 years since wearing the suit of the legendary DC character in “The Flash” and “Batgirl,” even Ben Affleck says goodbye for the last time in the superhero movie that features Ezra Miller.
‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ has a release date of July 8. The other three Thor movies are available on Disney+. Among the first reactions to the film, it has been highlighted that Bale’s work is “one of the creepiest Marvel villains we’ve ever seen on screen“.
