To download a book to Kindle, you must have a Kindle account. Amazon and an updated device. This way you can enjoy different works directly on your device without any hassles. You can download a title you already own or purchase a new one.



How to Download a Book to Kindle

First of all, it is important to make sure that your the device is updated to the latest version of the system, otherwise you will not be able to access the store. The step-by-step guide below works on both Kindle and the mobile and tablet app.

  1. Sign in to your Amazon account on Kindle or through the Kindle app;
  2. Tap “Library”;
  3. Select a work from your list and tap on it.

If the title is not on your device, the download will begin immediately. If you prefer, you can tap the three dots on the cover of the book, comic or manga in your list and then select “Download”. Download time varies depending on eBook file size or Internet speed.

Furthermore, you can buy digital books from the Amazon store read from the device e send files via USB to Kindle. In both situations the works will appear in your library, but you will only be able to download eBooks purchased in store, since those transferred via computer will be immediately available.

What formats does the Kindle read?

When you download a file directly from the Kindle Digital Store, you typically receive the content in Amazon’s priority format, AZW3. However, the e-reader reads other types. These are:

  • EPUB;
