Of all the pop culture fictions, many of the films that make up the gigantic Marvel Cinematic Universe are arguably the most cryptic in detail. A true playground for fans and Easter egg hunters, the adventures of Captain America, Iron Man or Spider-Man have dozens of little winks waiting for you!
In Spider-Man Far From Home, Tom Holland’s second solo adventure in the Spider-Man suit, which airs tonight on TF1, we notice that certain car license plates match the comic numbers. Very specific books, that the creators of the works appear almost everywhere in the film, or that a sign in the city subtly announces Phase IV of the Marvel Universe.
Double hint for true fans!
But in the middle of all these little details there is also a double reference, first to Spider-Man’s very first adventure in the comics, but also to Sam Raimi’s first feature film, in which Tobey Maguire played Peter Parker.
To see this wink, you’ll have to hit pause at the beginning of the movie, during the sequence where Hap warns Peter that Nick Fury is going to contact him again. At exactly 8 minutes and 6 seconds, take a close look at the poster behind Jon Favreau.

If you look a little closer, you’ll see that he’s announcing a wrestling tournament featuring a certain…Crusher Hogan. As I’m sure you know if you’re a fan of the original comics, the latter is the wrestler Peter Parker met in the first issues when he barely got his superpowers.

But that’s not all! Although his name is partially obscured by the ring bell, the sign also announces the presence of Bonso McGraw (aka chainsaw). On-screen Randy Savage took Hogan’s place in the ring in the first installment of the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man trilogy, in a script that fans never saw and never forgot.
Have you noticed any other references to Spider-Man Far From Home?
