The experienced and former surferBBB Lucas Chumbo won two categories in the Gigantes de Nazaré challenge in Portugal. The Brazilian celebrated the double title of champion of the ‘biggest wave surfed’ and the ‘best performance’ of the competition’. Chumbo may still hold the record for the biggest wave surfed in history.

Together with Lucas Fink, the only Brazilian to compete in skimboarding, Lucas Chumbo surfed a 27.01 meter wave, the largest in the championship.

This wave surpassed that of Sebastian Steudtner, the current world record holder (26.21 m). To be validated, the measurement is still subject to evaluation by the WSL and Guinness.

In addition to mastering the ‘monstrous’ waves, Lucas Chumbo stood out for his skill and dexterity during the heats on the coast of Nazaré, a fishing village on the Portuguese coast.

In the women’s category, the title of biggest wave surfed went to Michelle des Bouillons, current champion of the Gigantes. In addition to Michelle, Alessandra Marinelli, Joana Andrade and Michaella Fregonese competed.

The dispute was between Bouillons and Alessandra, an amateur surfer who ventured into the giant waves of Nazaré, but the reigning champion took the title after surfing a 22.05 meter wall.
