In the famous series “House of the Dragon”, based on the work of George RR Martin, one of the most feared and deadly dragons is Vhagar. Known for his ferocity and strength, this dragon has left an indelible mark on the history of Westeros, but what makes Vhagar so formidable and deadly in the series? We explain to you.
The story of Vhagar, the most powerful dragon in “House of Dragon”
Vhagar is recognized as one of the most powerful dragons in the history of Westeros. Raised by Aegon the Conqueror, the legendary founder of House Targaryen, Vhagar was one of three dragons who helped Aegon subdue the Seven Kingdoms and unite them under his reign. However, what sets him apart from his fellow dragons is his longevity and history of taking part in some of the most critical battles in Westeros.
Vhagar is deadly thanks to the combination of his strength and combat prowess. As if that wasn’t enough, its size is imposing, so much so that it can darken the sky in seconds. Additionally, its ability to deliver fire in an accurate and devastating manner made it a fearsome weapon both in the air and on land.
But what really establishes Vhagar as the deadliest dragon is his record of victories in battle. During the War of Conquest, Vagar played a critical role in the conquest of Harrenhal and the Battle of Goultown, showing his ability to turn the tide of a battle with his commanding presence and fiery breath.
He was also known for his longevity. Over the years, Vhagar participated in numerous conquests, becoming a legendary figure in Westeros.
Vhagar’s “stealing” in “House of Dragon” marks an important event
Within the House of Dragon TV series, Vhagar is the most powerful dragon, surpassing in strength and size all others of the current House Targaryen, such as Caraxes, Syrax, and Vermax, to name a few.
Its owner at the beginning of the chapters was Laena Velaryon, who becomes Daemon Targaryen’s second wife, but dies after asking Vhagar to burn her alive after failing to bear her third child.
Although the imposing dragon’s new rider would legitimately be Laena’s daughter Baela, it is Aemond Targaryen who ends up riding her, and in the controversy over his action, the prince ends up losing an eye.
Years later, in an act of rebellion, Vhagar disobeys Aemond and ends up killing Lucerys Velaryon and Arrax, which is further proof of how dangerous said dragon is.
