I remember: The day came with this sci-fi trailer

Star Wars fans will remember where they were when they first saw the first footage from The Force Awakens released on Friday, November 28, 2014. me too. I know where I was: I was in the editorial office of AlloCiné. I have been a journalist in the news department since March.

That day, the whole world knew that the first teaser for Episode VII was about to drop. After a ten-year wait since Revenge of the Sith at AlloCiné, we were clearly ready to see new images from the Star Wars universe. But not only our news center: the entire editorial team – even non-fans of the saga, because there are some – has been buzzing since morning, waiting for these new images from JJ Abrams, with new and old actors returning and expected. midday.

Around 4 pm, a colleague said: “fell”. And here, time stopped for 1 minute and 38 seconds for everyone. There was a religious silence in the open space: everyone had their headphones on and their eyes glued to the screen for wonder (Finn’s arrival), intrigue (the trailer was very cryptic) and misty eyes. The storyteller’s sentence was running through my head for a long time: “Something has awakened. Can you feel it? The dark side and the light.” Barely 13 words, but so much Star Wars!

In the editing room, some people replayed the images over and over, Michelle and Michelle immediately spotted the false connection, and each frame was cut to reveal a small part of future issues of this galactic story.

A surprising traffic light

First of all, I remember the small disappointment we had at the absence of the “old men” who were announced to return, such as Carrie Fisher (Lea), Mark Hamill (Luke), Harrison Ford (Han Solo) or Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca). But the message was clear, The Force Awakens was going to focus on new characters whose names we didn’t know at the time: Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren.

Rey (Daisy Ridley)

Like many Star Wars fans, I was ultimately disappointed, or at least very disappointed, by this “postlogue” and the treatment of the saga in cinema and later Disney+ in general. However, every now and then I think back to that day in November 2014 when anything was still possible for this unique world in the history of cinema. At a time when this teaser was finally presenting… a new hope.
