Amazon Prime Video has released the posters and subtitled teaser for “Paper Girls,” a series based on the award-winning comic books by Brian K. Vaughan (“The Runaways”) and Cliff Chiang. The preview shows the four protagonists, played by Riley Lai Nelet (“Altered Carbon”), Sofia Rosinsky (“Fast Layne”), Camryn Jones (“Perpetual Grace, LTD”) and Fina Strazza (“The Invisible Woman”), traveling in time for the future – which is 2019.
As in “Stranger Things”, the plot takes place in the 1980s and involves four friends who ride their bicycles through their small town. But there is a special reason why they used bicycles. They work as newspaper delivery girls (hence the name Paper Girls).
The plot takes place the morning after Halloween 1988, when the fictional city of Stony Stream is surprised by the invasion of a mysterious force from the future, which ends up engaging the four friends in a conflict between two rival factions of time travelers.
Despite the comparisons with “Stranger Things”, it is worth mentioning that the “Paper Girls” comics were released in 2015, a year before Netflix was produced.
Produced by Legendary Television in association with Plan B, Brad Pitt’s company, the adaptation is signed by Stephany Folsom, co-writer of “Toy Story 4”, who will also produce the attraction in collaboration with screenwriters Christopher Cantwell and Christopher. C. Rogers (creators of “Halt and Catch Fire”) and the authors of the comics.
The series will debut on July 29.
