Once upon a time in Gotham City…
These fans look back with emotion and nostalgia on the animated Batman, which presented the world of Gotham City with a unique touch and tone during its 85-episode run from 1992-1995. Under the direction of Eric Radomski, who was in charge of the set at the time, the show’s approach leans towards the 1940s and film noir, with clear references to German Expressionism and Art Deco, and a brilliant creative idea consisting of bringing out color against a black background.
The tone is also very dark, with characters who are certainly animated, but who move away from the clichés of children’s cartoons to show more nuance and depth and relevant motivations – when they’re not involved – with the “villains”. 4210 pieces, 44 bags, 15 colors and a unique aura
That’s the spirit that the LEGO Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City™ Box (#76271) manages to capture. In this slideshow of city skylines, inspired by the series credits, the bricklayers took a “dark deco” approach to the most beautiful effect, using only a 15-color palette to show the various buildings, reddish skies, and floodlights. Police aircraft. About sixty stickers complete the set to bring little touches of life (and just as many easter eggs) to fans.

But respect aside, this new kit is a real treat to put together. It incorporates a “flat” approach that we were able to experiment with in certain LEGO DOTS tables (Including a great portrait of Batman in the style of Jim Lee) structure with volume, giving depth to the various buildings of Gotham City. The reconstruction work is meticulous, the attention to detail is fantastic, the rendering is excellent and each building can be removed to reveal hidden secrets related to the series (can you find the mini Batmobile?). What’s more, each of the forty-four bags is linked to a specific episode of the show.
