Netflix recently launched another original production, to complete its catalogue. The film is called The Astronaut and brings elements of science fiction, comedy and drama, attracting the attention of streaming subscribers.
The production, which stars Adam Sandler in the lead role, took part in the renowned Berlin Film Festival in February this year and presents an interesting plot, with an impressive ending.

What is the ending of the movie The Astronaut?
The plot of the film follows the story of Jakub Procházka (Sandler), sent on a totally complex space mission. Since his life on Earth doesn’t seem to be very good, the character searches the universe for what he needs to move forward.
Jakub aims to investigate the Chopra cloud and realizes that no matter how much it torments him (as well as scientists and humanity), it ends up being a metaphor for the way the astronaut views his own life.
Although isolated from all humans, Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) is practically the only contact with life that Jakub can rely on in his mission. The character is still trying to understand his relationship with Chopra-based Lenka (Carey Mulligan).
With this, little by little, Jakub begins to have several memories with Lenka, who ended up being left pregnant and alone on Earth, while he was on a mission. This makes the ending of the film a little ambiguous when it shows that the astronaut has given himself and his relationship a second chance.
However, this conclusion is not very assertive, as it leaves open the possibility that the character is delusional or dreaming of a reunion, as other similar parts of the film suggest this fact throughout the film.
The moment that concludes the film shows Jakub and Lenka together on the bank of a river, with a fantastical atmosphere around the two, reinforced by director Johan Renck in the framing of the scene.
If the fantasy hypothesis is taken into account, it is possible that Jakub failed in his mission, while his rivals managed to find more answers than him. Therefore, his fate is uncertain in space, leaving room for the viewer to think that he was alone again. Even so, the connection the character has to the moments spent alone with Lenka suggests that it was worth it.
