A few weeks ago, Marvel announced the main cast of “The Fantastic Four”, each of the superheroes we will see in the group’s new film, but it was still necessary to know who would be the Silver Surfer, the alien who threatens their peace of their planet.
Julia Garner to Play Silver Surfer in ‘The Fantastic Four’
In early April, outlets such as ‘Variety’ and ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ announced that Julia Garner will play the role of Silver Shufer in the next film ‘The Fantastic Four’, directed by Matt Shakman.
The character was previously played by Doug Jones and was voiced by Laurence Fishburne for the 2007 version.
As of now, the “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna” actress has not publicly commented on the role.
Who is Shalla-Bal, Julia Garner’s character in ‘The Fantastic Four’?
Without a doubt, one of the questions on fans’ minds was, how can the Silver Surfer be a woman? As is often the case with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you have to go to the comics to find answers.
In the comics, Shalla-Bal first appeared as the love interest of Norrin Radd, the first Silver Surfer. Both lived on Zenn-La, an alien planet that Galactus plans to destroy. To save the planet, Radd sacrifices himself and offers to be its harbinger, which turns him into the Silver Surfer and separates him from his beloved.
In ‘Silver Surfer #2’, Shalla-Bal is the one who makes the deal with Galactus to become his messenger in exchange for sparing her planet. This is exactly what could happen in “The Fantastic Four” movie, which would also mean Norrin staying behind and leading Zenn-La in his lover’s absence. However, the possibility of the characters becoming a Silver Surfer is also open.
At this time, it has not been announced if an actor has already been cast to play Norrin Radd.

The cast of “The Fantastic Four” is completed with Pedro Pascal in the role of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

While there are no plot details yet, it is speculated to take place in the 1960s, a time when the Fantastic Four were first introduced by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby in Marvel comics.
“The Fantastic Four” is scheduled for release on July 25, 2025.
