Calmon: Honda CR-V Hybrid is no longer attractive due to its high price

Honda CR-V Advanced Hybrid costs R $ 352,900. It is difficult to compete with Chinese cars, but the Japanese brand has its own strength

The first good impression of the Honda CR-V Advanced Hybrid, a full hybrid, is its style in line with the proposal of a modern SUV. At the front, no chrome parts. On the ceiling, the indefectible longitudinal bars are so discreet that, if eliminated, they would not go unnoticed.

19-inch wheels They have an elaborate design, but painted black hides part of their appearance. And at the rear we like the headlights with a sinuous design, even if they remind us of the Volvo ones. The exhaust outlet on the left is just there to make up the look (only the one on the right works).

With a wheelbase lengthened by 40 mm (now 2,700 mm), it also satisfies those traveling in the rear seat, which slides longitudinally, adjusts the inclination of the backrest and has an almost flat floor despite the permanent 4×4 traction.

In the best conditions, the trunk volume reaches an excellent 581 liters (VDA). At the front, the two seats have electric adjustments and adequate lateral support. Control of the air conditioning is carried out correctly via buttons, and a grille on the dashboard replaces the traditional air vents.

9-inch multimedia screen mirrors Android Auto and Apple CarPlay browsers. By activating the arrow control on the right side, the camera expands the rear view, overlaying the navigation map, but just press a button on the lever itself to deactivate it. It takes some concentration not to miss relevant information.

In passive safety, the CR-V stands out for its 10 airbags, including two for the knees (driver and front passenger).

The highlight is the dynamics of the CR-V. Internal combustion engine (MCI), petrol, 2 litre, naturally aspirated, 147 hp, 19.4 kgf m and an electric one 184 hp, 34.2 kgf m, plus an integrated starter/generator to charge the little 1 .1 kW h battery. Combined power of 207 hp (combined torque is technically not measurable).

The SUV starts with the electric motor, but automatically. The Power Control Unit manages the coordinated operation of the three engines. The driver can choose between three driving modes (Economic, Normal and Sport). Price: R $ 352,900. It is difficult to compete with Chinese products, but the Japanese company has the strength of its brand.

The first quarter closes with good sales results

Growth in light and heavy vehicle licensing from January to March this year was 9.1%, with a focus on cars and light commercial vehicles, the main segment of the market, which increased by 10.7% compared to the first quarter of 2023. A total of 514,517 units were sold. The information comes from Fenabrave, an entity that brings together dealers from all segments.

José Andreta Jr., its president, maintains the forecast of a 12% increase in sales compared to last year, a higher level than that forecast by Anfavea (6%). “Credit is expanding thanks to the trend towards stabilization of default rates. We have not yet reached normality between 60 and 70% of sales financed, which depends on a greater reduction in delays in installments. However, we can still revise our forecasts upwards,” he underlined.

The executive recalls that if the first half of the year were to consolidate the recovery, greater growth would be confirmed in 2024 because on average the second half of the year historically shows results 30% higher than the first. The guarantee framework thrived after Congress overrode a presidential veto on the accelerated, but still unhonored, asset recovery process.

This Framework will have effects in the medium term with the offer of lower financing rates for good payers, a tool that has been applied abroad for some time and which, evidently, has worked.

Ituran bets on artificial intelligence to accelerate the fight against robberies and thefts

In the traditional balance sheet of its activities in Brazil, the Israeli multinational Ituran presented an industrial plan structured in successive phases. For 2014, a 13% growth in the customer base requiring anti-theft localization services is expected. Its aggregate tracking and insurance product now includes electric and hybrid models, as well as a new offering aimed at the Class C and D crowd who own older, lower-value cars.

It will invest in expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve event detection and speed up recovery of different types of vehicles: cars, pickup trucks, motorcycles, trucks, boats and agricultural machinery. It works with three technologies: satellite communication, radio frequency (immune to criminal blockades) and mobile telephone network (ideal for urban airlines).

With the help of the 5G telephone network, Ituran has created an advanced real-time telemetry system for the 911s of the Porsche Carrera Cup. The Brazilian solution is considered the most efficient among the 27 countries that organize these one-make competitions.
