If you’ve been waiting for the next iteration of the Bond film series or for news on who might play the titular character, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson’s word is “wait a little longer.” Because according to Broccoli, the next film is at least two years away.
Broccoli and Wilson, the EON duo who leads Bond’s character and his future, received their BFI scholarships at a star-studded event and spoke with Term about what’s going on with the search for a new actor to play Bond and what the movies will look like in the future.
“Nobody is in the running,” Broccoli said. “We think about where to go with him, we talk about it. There isn’t a script and we can’t think of one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next movie because, in reality, it’s a retelling of Bond. We are reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say it takes at least two years to shoot.
At this point, it’s worth noting that it’s been four years since Pierce Brosnan’s last Bond (die another day) and Daniel Craig’s debut in Royal casinoso it’s not uncommon for there to be a waiting period between 007s. And it’s potentially further complicated by how there is no time to die finished (spoiler alert: boom!)
So yeah … it looks like we could wait until at least 2025 for a new Bond movie to arrive. But given MGM’s big deal with Amazon, can’t we ship fast with a Prime account?
