Musk accused Moraes of promoting censorship in Brazil. First, it all started with a question: “Why do you ask for so much censorship in Brazil?” Subsequently, in a series of publications on the platform, the entrepreneur threatened to restore the accounts prohibited by the minister’s decisions, even if this would lead to X leaving his representation in Brazil and losing income.
“We are lifting all restrictions. This judge has imposed heavy fines, threatened to arrest our employees, and cut off access to X in Brazil,” Elon Musk wrote. “Content restrictions in Brazil have been removed,” he said in another post. Moraes and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), chaired by the minister, did not comment.
The bill regulating fake news on social media, the so-called Fake News PL, has been stalled in Congress since the vote was overturned. According to Estadao revealed, big tech companies conducted a push and lobbying effort to remove the proposal from the legislative agenda. Now, the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is studying other measures, such as taxing big technologies for specific projects.
