‘Black Phone’ made a last minute change to its ending

“A day or two before we shot it… it suddenly hit me out of nowhere.”

SPOILERS FOR THE END OF ‘BLACK PHONE’

‘Black Phone’ director Scott Derricksongot in the way by changing the ending of the movie at the last minute.

In one of the final sequences of the horror film, one of the best adaptations of Joe Hill (son of Stephen King), Robin’s (Miguel Cazarez Mora) ghost appears in physical form, but was originally only supposed to contact Finney (Mason Thames) through the black phone itselfwhich acts as a kind of portal.

Remembering the change, Derrickson told The Hollywood Reporter: “In the script, Robin was not in the room. It was just a phone call.

A day or two before we shot it… it suddenly hit me. I thought, ‘Oh, the audience wants to see that kid again. We have to see it again. He won’t feel good if you don’t see him again.'”

“I was like, ‘Where is that kid?’ and they said, ‘We just bring him home.’ And I said, ‘Bring him back. You have to bring him back.'”

Scott Derrickson, director of “Sinister” and “Black Phone,” added that he hadn’t even finalized how he would shoot the scene in the morning.

I ended up doing it all in one go“, said. “I think a good director always has an antenna up trying to hear what the movie really wants to be.. If you do that, sometimes you can make decisions that are bigger than you.”
