Diax emits R$1.2 billion in “Green CPR” with the potential to offset 9 million tons of CO2

The Brazilian group Diax has issued 1.2 billion reais in Rural Product Certificates (CPR) linked to conservation and recovery activities of native Amazon forests, with the potential to offset the equivalent of 9 million tons of carbon, Souza reported on Monday. The company Barquette Advogados was present at the fair, which registered the operation on the B3 exchange.

The issuance of the “Green CPR” by the investment and technology company was accompanied by an area of native vegetation of approximately 20 thousand hectares, acquired by the group in the Novo Aripuanã (AM) region, with the aim of negotiating credits of carbon and stimulate the socio-environmental governance of companies.

Through the acquisition of “CPR Verde”, companies from all over the world can participate in the Green Guardians conservation project, led by Diax with the aim of safeguarding the environment and promoting social and economic benefits for local communities.

“This is one of the largest projects to date and, with the legal feasibility, we open to the market the possibility for any company to offset carbon emissions through the acquisition of Green CPR,” said lawyer Vinícius Souza Barquette , agri-food specialist, in a note sent to Reuters.

According to him, the legal feasibility of registering “Green CPRs” with B3 creates an option for companies interested in offsetting their emissions.

“We do not yet have a space for companies to make these acquisitions, but now there is the possibility of obtaining a registered CPR that allows the compensation of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions…”, added the lawyer, partner by Souza Barquette Lawyers.

The amount that companies will invest is linked to the amount of tonnes of carbon they intend to sequester from the atmosphere. The value of each ton of CO2 was set at 130.60 reais.

A technical report released by CO2 certification body Florestal Engenharia and Projetos Ambientais attests to the potential for carbon sequestration in the area.
