Information about Robert Downey Jr.’s method in the MCU franchise was confirmed by the actor’s co-star, Gwyneth Paltrow: “several lines were written 10 minutes before we recorded”

Robert Downey Jr. improvised several of his character’s dialogues in the series Iron Man. At least that’s what he guaranteed Gwyneth PaltrowDowney Jr.’s colleague in the saga of MCU. A EsquirePaltrow revealed how several scenes needed to be rewritten after Robert discarded them, saying: “I’m not going to say that f*cking text.”

“I think that for something to feel alive to Robert, it needs to be refreshing, and he makes everything fresh by making it seem like it was just invented. So a lot of the lines were written 10 minutes before we recorded them,” commented the actress.

According to Gwyneth, it was normal for her to meet Downey Jr. and director John Favreau in the director’s trailer each morning so they could “make up” their own dialogue:

“There was this process where John Favreau, Robert and I would go to Jon’s trailer in the morning, with Robert saying, like, ‘I’m not going to say this f*cking text,’ and throwing out the script. And then we would improvise in the trailer. or on set.”

Park Chan-wookwho worked with Downey Jr. on the series The Sympathizerfrom the HBOconfirmed that he still uses the infamous technique:

“I started to wonder if Robert had 10 writers in his house that he hired to come up with these different lines for him that he would memorize and pretend were improv,” Park joked (via IndieWire). “How can he create these lines so quickly?”

The same profile as Esquire who heard Paltrow and Park also asked Downey Jr. if he would reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU, to which he confirmed:

“It’s a very integral part of my DNA. That role chose me. And, see, I always say: never bet against [o chefĂ£o do MCU] Kevin Feige. It’s a losing bet. He is the house. He will always win.”
