Professional American football player and actor, O.J. Simpson was best known for his film role as the down-on-his-luck cop Nordberg in the comedy series Is There a Cop opposite Leslie Nielsen. Accused of murdering his wife, his trial and the aftermath of what became known as the “OJ Simpson Affair” set the world on fire.
His death was confirmed by his family X : “On April 10, our father Orenthal James Simpson passed away after a battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that we respect his wishes for privacy and grace.”
The OJ Simpson Affair
In 1994, OJ Simpson was accused of murdering his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. He pleaded not guilty at his criminal trial, was found liable in civil court three years later, and was ordered to pay $33.5 million in restitution to the Goldman family. His case was the subject of the first season of American Crime Story. Simpson was played by Cuba Gooding Jr.

After a few small television appearances in 1968, O.J. Simpson had a supporting role in the feature film A Fistful of Leads (1969) before taking on more notable roles in The Man of the Man, The Infernal Tower or The Mercenaries. He then appeared in the hit miniseries Roots, and after The Gun in the Hand (1979), starred in several major television movies, including two “Goldie and the Boxer” movies.

In 2008, he was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping. He served 9 years of a 33-year sentence before being paroled in October 2017 at the age of 70.
