Hear New Netflix Series Endings: Will We Explain Parasyte Season 1 Ending?

Described as a transposition of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s famous manga, Parasite: The Gray Series is a free adaptation of the Japanese-only comic. The Netflix production is a new creation from Yeon Sang-ho, director of Last Train to Busan (also working on the TV series Hellbound).

global success

Although it does not faithfully adapt the manga’s plot, the South Korean series has still enjoyed considerable success on Netflix. The program is currently ranked as the most watched non-English language series on the platform worldwide, with a total of 31.5 million hours watched.

While it has not yet been announced if the series will be renewed, the open ending of the first season at least opens the door to the idea of a sequel. The final scene of the last episode does indeed see the appearance of a new character familiar to manga fans…as it is the protagonist of the original work, Shinichi Izumi.

A different hero in the manga

The live-action series features a female protagonist who manages to coexist with a parasite that affects her. Conversely, the manga features a male protagonist who is described as a lonely high school student. The infection causes him to change personally, but it also causes him to undergo physical changes and discover superhuman strength.

His appearance in the series – and especially the close-up on his right hand – suggests that he is not yet infected by the parasite. Is this a simple nod, or a potential Season 2 tease instead? The success of the series in any case opens up the prospect of a sequel – if, of course, it is the project of creator Yeon Sang-ho.

Internet users who want to explore the world of Parasyte and learn more about the character of Shinichi Izumi have the opportunity to rewatch the Parasyte anime. An animated series more faithful to the original manga story is also available on Netflix.

Parasyte: The Gray is now available exclusively on Netflix.
