TikTok sponsors the San Sebastian Film Festival

TikTok decided to combine the world of copyrighted movies and short mobile videos.

On Thursday, TikTok will announce that it has become an official sponsor of the San Sebastian Film Festival, the landmark film event in Spain, which this year celebrates its 70th anniversary and will take place from September 16 to 24.

The move follows TikTok sponsoring the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, the first digital media giant and world-famous art festival to join forces.

San Sebastian Festival director José Luis Rebordinos welcomed the TikTok deal and said the short video platform will help the new generation of the tough Spanish festival. “The festival has a call to listen to all audiences and TikTok is a good partner to fulfill that mission,” he said.

As a result of the collaboration, San Sebastián will give the TikTok community access to a wide range of exclusive content through the festival’s official TikTok account, @sansebastianfes. As in Cannes this year, the creators of TikTok will walk the red carpet in San Sebastian, be invited backstage and have interviews with VIP guests of the festival.

But the debut of the TikTok skin did not go unnoticed. Renowned French-Cambodian director Riti Pan initially resigned as president of the Cannes jury after reviewing videos of TikTok short films and alleging that TikTok executives were trying to interfere with the jury’s selection. It looks like TikTok has capitulated and Panh has joined the competition again.
