Apparently, Warner Bros. is returning to pre-pandemic levels, when the film industry in general suffered due to the lockdown. According to data from Box Office Mojo, the studio reached $1 billion in box office sales in the first 15 weeks of 2024, surpassing the milestone achieved in 2018.
Launched in February, Dune 2 it also broke the box office record for 2024 by being the first release of the year to cross the $500 million mark worldwide – and that happened in less than 20 days after its debut!
Produced with an estimated budget of 190 million dollars, Denis Villeneuve’s sequel is already considered one of the most profitable for Warner Bros.: the performance was so positive that Dune is already being compared to another recent phenomenon of the big screen, Oppenheimer.
Currently, in the Box Office Mojo world rankings, the podium is made up of the three Warner films: Dune: Part 2, Godzilla and Kong AND Kung Fu Panda 4. It is worth mentioning that, in 2023, the studio also made billions with the resounding success of Barbieranked as the film of the year at the box office, although it lost the spotlight at the Oscars Oppenheimer.
