The Senate Economic Affairs Commission has definitively approved (without the need for a vote in the Chamber) the project which determines a quota of national content on streaming platforms. With the approval of the text, which took place this Tuesday (16th), the project passes to the analysis of the Chamber of Deputies.

The text stipulates that streaming services with annual gross revenues exceeding R$96 million will have to maintain 100 to 300 Brazilian productions in their collection on a permanent basis. The variation will depend on the size of the catalog of the platform in question.
Furthermore, the platforms will pay a commission equal to 3% of gross revenue as a contribution to the development of the national film industry (Condecine), as per the G1.

The project had already been approved in November 2023, but was subjected to a new vote, for regulatory reasons. Since then, senators have suggested changes to the text, which were rejected by rapporteur Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO).
In addition to obtaining Condecine, streaming platforms will have to be accredited by the National Cinema Agency (Ancine). And it will be up to the agency to monitor and apply sanctions in case of non-compliance with the quota and/or payment of Condecine.
