Under pressure, Carpini says he doesn’t believe San Paolo is looking for a coach

What was already bad could get even worse for Thiago Carpini, coach of San Paolo. After all, his team lost 2-1 against Flamengo this Wednesday (17th), at the Maracanã. Extremely under pressure in his position, he held a press conference at the Maracanã.

With the result of this second round, the Tricolor started the Brasileirão with two defeats. Something, in fact, that hasn’t happened since 1990.

Given the behind-the-scenes speculation about the club’s search for a new coach, Carpini did not want controversy. He stated that he will keep his attention on the reaction of San Paolo as long as he remains in charge of the team.

“It’s not me who has to answer this question (whether to continue coaching San Paolo). And I see myself working and doing my best. This speculation about staying, not staying, leaving, not leaving, has been going on for more than 30 years . days I will continue to work as long as I am the commander of this team,” he began.

The coach stressed that he does not believe that the management is looking for a change in the technical command. Over the course of this week, several names have begun to emerge as possible replacements.

“As far as the news is concerned, I am not worried. Whether or not the board speaks with other names, I prefer to believe not, because we have always had a very respectable relationship. I see it as speculation because there would be no problems for the board to communicate if this happens, make one last point, whether to say yes or no”, he highlighted.

Support comes from yourself, says Carpini

When asked if he felt supported by the Tricolore management of San Paolo, who once again chose not to speak after a defeat, the coach was emphatic:

“As long as nothing is communicated I feel supported. Because all we hear is speculation. The dissatisfaction on the part of the fans, even on the part of the press, is understandable. I have never changed my way of being. What I need is I always have dignity and do my best, representing the institution, myself and doing the best for São Paulo while I am in charge of the project. Support is part of what we imagine may or may not happen to me… My support is what I create. Respect for my work, my principles, self-esteem. No matter how much people tend to talk about human beings, I feel confident and continue to work with my beliefs.”

Carpini also said he had not spoken to the board up until that point. The Italian delegation, in fact, returned in the early hours of the morning with a charter flight to the capital San Paolo.

“It was a locker room of upset, of regret. I didn’t speak to the president, the manager, anyone… Normal. They were in the locker room to greet me, all the athletes, no conversation outside of that. If something happens, I imagine that there will be this conversation. What I can say is that I am angry at yet another defeat for San Paolo”, he concluded.
