Iran may review its “nuclear doctrine” amid Israeli threats, a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said on Thursday, raising concerns about Tehran’s nuclear program, which it has always maintained is strictly for peaceful purposes.
“A review of our nuclear doctrine and policy, as well as previously communicated considerations, is quite possible,” Ahmad Haghtalab, commander in charge of nuclear security, said, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has the final say on Tehran’s nuclear program, which the West suspects has military purposes.
Khamenei has said on multiple occasions that Tehran has never sought to build or use nuclear weapons, which is prohibited by his religion.
