The former San Paolo player criticizes Carpini’s dismissal and points the blame: ‘Brazilian culture will not change’

The coach was sacked after the defeat against Flamengo in the Brasileirão

The day after the defeat against Flamengo, Sao Paulo announced the dismissal of coach Thiago Carpini. Rivaldo, Betfair ambassador, commented on the situation of coaches in Brazilian football. For the five-time champion, who played for the Tricolore in 2011, the way football treats coaches is not good and he underlined that the blame, more often than not, lies with the players.

– This culture in Brazil will not change. When a team starts to lose or the results are not satisfactory, the first to be ‘sacrificed’ is the coach. No one can do this to all players and in my opinion most of the time it is the players fault. But the president cannot send away all the players, so it is always up to the coach – he said.

– I don’t think it’s Carpini’s fault, but these are football things, especially in Brazil, where coaches don’t have time. They need to always win and when the team starts to fall to the bottom of the table or starts badly, the criticism starts and the president always ends up sending the coach away to alleviate things,” he added.
