It is a literary masterpiece that belongs to the magical realism genre and has marked generations. and even today. Translated into 40 languages, it has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. One Hundred Years of Solitude Gabriel García Márquez credits his adaptation of the first series. Netflix has just released the first teaser.

The story, which spans several generations, follows the Buendy family and tells the story of the founding of the mythical city of Macondo.

The Spanish-language TV series One Hundred Years of Solitude was filmed in Colombia with the support of García Márquez’s family. Netflix released a short teaser to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Gabriel García Márquez winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2022, but this new teaser reveals much more.

The video shows Aureliano Babylonia reading Melquiadez’s legendary diary before taking viewers to Macondo to see Colonel Aureliano Buendia in front of a firing squad, recalling “That distant afternoon when his father took him to learn about ice“.

An ambitious project

In 2019, it was revealed that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the book, which had never before been adapted for the screen. In fact, not a single film was made from it, Gabriel García Márquez never agreed to sell the rights. They were donated by the author’s son, Rodrigo García Barcha.

The children of García Márquez also decided to go against their father’s advice and this year published the last novel that the late author wanted to destroy. BBC.

Jose Rivera, Natalia Santa, Camila Brugge, Maria Camila Arias and Albatros Gonzalez are the authors of the series. Netflix said it was “One of the most ambitious projects in Latin America to date, carried out by the most talented artists from Colombia and throughout LATAM.

Alex García López and Laura Mora direct this 16-episode project produced by the Colombian production company Dynamo.

Some of the actors appear in the teaser, including Claudio Cattano (Colonel Aureliano Buendia), Jeronimo Baron (Young Aureliano Buendia), Marco Gonzalez (Jose Arcadio Buendia), Leonardo Soto (Jose Arcadio his son), Susana Morales (Suzana Morales). Ella Becerra (Petronilla), Carlos Suarez (Aureliano Iguarán), Moreno Borja (Melquiades) and Santiago Vazquez (Aureliano Buendia’s Teen).

One Hundred Years of Solitude will be available on the streaming platform later this year.
