A child aged 1 year and 2 months was left with bruises on his face after being bitten by another child in a nursery in Criciúma, Santa Catarina, last Thursday, 18. The boy’s mother, Marina Faraco, reported the case online on social media. According to her, her son had received several bites at the Afasc Lino Pizetti Early Childhood Education Center.
“It is not normal for a child to be under the supervision of an adult, specially trained to care for infants and children, or at least it should [ser]he suffered an attack from another child which left him in this state,” he said.
The institute, run by the Criciúma Women’s Social Assistance Association (Afasc), reported that “the little girl was bitten by another child in the class”. Afasc also stressed that “the situation is common in the context of childhood” and is under investigation.
After the accident, the child’s mother filed a complaint with the Police Headquarters for the Protection of Children, Adolescents, Women and the Elderly (DPCami). As a result, the child was subjected to a criminal examination at the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
According to the child’s mother, the attack occurred due to an insufficient number of workers at the nursery. She said she was contacted by the institute just two hours after the incident. The Civil Police are investigating the case.
