NCIS: Los Angeles Star Chris O’Donnell spent more than a decade playing a character with no family ties, but the actor himself made virtually his entire family appear in the long-running CBS drama. That said, he recently talked about how getting his wife in front of the camera didn’t go so well, and the story is pretty funny in hindsight.
Chris O’Donnell, who has played G. Callen since the beginning of NCIS: Los Angelesappears in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. When Colbert said that almost everyone in the actor’s family was present NCIS: THE, O’Donnell shared a pretty funny story about when his wife and friends begged him to join an episode he was directing, and what went wrong:
So they have a scene where a guy walks into a restaurant and shoots on the spot, and everyone freaks out and freaks out, and runs away. I watch the replay after shooting because there are hundreds of people there. A group of girls arrive, all laughing hysterically, still carrying some real champagne that they have ordered themselves. And I look back, and the cinematographer walks in and says, “Chris, you know everyone laughs.” And then I’m like, ‘Yeah, I know. She is my wife. We will take care of it. And I come back and say, ‘Guys, you’re going to get me fired. So you have to cooperate here, and maybe when the guy starts shooting a gun, it’s not funny. That’s all.’
Though it’s safe to say star / director Chris O’Donnell wouldn’t have been fired NCIS: Los Angeles As his wife laughs during an intense scene, it’s easy to see why he had to talk to her and her friends. The show must go on, together on set or not!
Thankfully, it looks like filming is back on track after O’Donnell chatted with the women and said he would be fired, and now he has a fun story to tell about the experience.
O’Donnell directed three episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles, but he hasn’t directed one since 2015. The show has already been renewed for season 14, so maybe he’ll be back behind the camera. If he does, it’s probably safe to say that his wife won’t be playing a starring role. Sure, maybe a few more laughs every now and then would be a good thing. The NCIS: Los Angeles The team definitely deserves a break after some of the more serious story arcs.
