Verdão had a classic draw with San Paolo
Palmeiras drew 0-0 with São Paulo, and Abel Ferreira gave clues to the negative phase of some athletes and praised Estêvão. The classic took place in Morumbis, this Monday (29th).
The coach highlighted that Verdão players sometimes lack confidence and end up hiding from matches on some occasions. Meanwhile, the boy Estêvão received praise for having a proactive attitude, for taking on responsibilities even at a very young age, at 17 years old.
– I trust my players too much. Players often need confidence. But often players, because of the game, the conversations between businessmen… Sometimes they forget what brought them here. Make mistakes and be bold – said Abel, after the draw between Palmeiras and Sao Paulo.
Even at a young age, Estêvão earned a place in Palmeiras’ starting team, alongside Raphael Veiga, Endrick and Flaco López. In 2024 there will be 10 professional matches and the Portuguese coach was impressed by the jewel.
– Estêvão is an example for all our players. He goes, he makes mistakes, but he comes back and does well. He makes mistakes, he does things right, he never hides. That’s what saddens me about some of our players. I have to challenge them, whether the game is at our home or at our rival’s home. I can never hide from the game. I’m not talking without the ball, but with the ball. I can’t watch my players play for the first time. You have to resist, win fouls. We don’t need anyone to hide and we trust them like I do,” he concluded.
After drawing with Sao Paulo, Abel Ferreira’s Palmeiras returns to play on Thursday (2), against Botafogo-SP, in the Copa do Brasil.
