‘And Then We Danced’, another film by Akin, represented Sweden at the 2020 Oscars

The filmmaker directed And Then We Dance (2019), official representative of Sweden in the Oscar 2020. A drama about identity, acceptance and unlikely connection that transcends borders and generations, the film hits theaters on July 11. Read synopsis:
Lia, a world-weary, financially struggling former teacher, has vowed to fulfill her recently deceased sister’s last wish: to find Tekla, her long-lost trans daughter. Together with Tekla’s former neighbor and friend, the unlucky young man Achi, she embarks on an exciting journey and forms an unlikely and involuntary bond as they navigate the back streets of Istanbul together in search of the young girl.
Written by Akin, Crossed ways is starred by Mzia Arabuli, Lucas Kankava It is Deniz Dumanlıwith photography by Lisabi Fridell (And Then We Dance), production design of Roger Rosenberg (The Worst Person in the World) and co-edited by Levan Akin It is Emma Lagrelius. The film opened the Panorama section in its world premiere on Berlinale 2024, in which he was awarded the Teddy Award, dedicated to films with LGBTQIA+ themes.
