Argentinos Juniors asks Santos for R$3 million to sign Carabajal, who arrived in Vila Belmiro in 2022
A new debt from Santos, now owed to midfielder Carabajal, could mean the club faces a new transfer ban from FIFA. Peixe would not have paid Argentinos Juniors the sum of 580 thousand dollars (R$ 3 million) to sign the midfielder in 2022. The Argentine still has a contract with Santos, but is on loan.
To avoid the transfer ban, i.e. the ban on signing and registering players, Santos will have to pay off the debt immediately. Previously the club had already suffered sanctions of this type due to the non-payment of right-back Fabian Bustos and midfielder Christian Cueva. But, after some negotiations, the council managed to pay off the debts in installments and return to trading on the market.
Carabajal is currently located in Puebla, Mexico. At 33, he had an unremarkable spell at Santos. The midfielder played 12 matches and scored one goal during his time at the club. Furthermore, he was also loaned to Vasco, where he also didn’t shine last year.
