After Indiana Jones and the Walking Dead, Ethan Isidore is a recruit at TF1: “I tried to play in the same style as Will Smith”

On Monday 6 May 2024, TF1 offers its viewers the opportunity to discover its new police series La Recrue from 9.10pm. In this new fiction, our heroes Kevin and Vincent form an atypical duo of investigators, one a very straight cop and the other an ex-con! They are played by Thierry Neyvich and Ethan Isidore, respectively.

The latter was also interviewed by AlloCiné. At our microphone, a man we recently saw alongside Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5 recalled this remarkable experience on set…

AlloCiné: Can you introduce us to your character in “La Recrue”?

Ethan Isidore: I play the character of Kevin Lorin, who is a young delinquent who has always been in trouble. After the arrest, he will be picked up by the police. He is a character who is not shy and likes to joke around all the time. He has no shame! He’s going to cause trouble at the police station where Vincent Berro works…

How is the on-screen duo you create with Thierry Neuwich different from other cop duos we see on TV?

We are facing an intergenerational conflict. That is, it is not only policemen who are different or from the opposite social class. Here, they separate each other by age and it shows, especially with Vincent! He doesn’t understand Kevin’s approach to work and then to life in general.

There is also the fact that Kevin has no parents and Vincent has a son. So both have a gap in different ways. (…) These are two characters who are in the process of finding each other.

Are there references to certain iconic films in the series?

Yes, the producers told us there are inspirations. These hints are also there because it’s nice to see the relationships of the different worlds grouped together in one series. So there is Beverly Hills Cop in particular.

It’s also that my character wears a bandana, but that was a bit of an accident… I actually went into the dressing room one day with my bandana on. We said: “Leave it!“Now, if I wear bandanas in my life, it’s partly because of ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.’ I was trying to play the same style as Will Smith. It’s a wink I wanted to do.”

Kevin also tries to get closer to his colleague Sofia (Andrea Lovich) but apparently didn’t win… could they still be a couple?

I don’t know if they’ll be able to get together because… it hurts me to say this, but I’ve been through what Kevin is going through. Boy, she looks at you like a rookie, see? (laughs) Difficult!

At the very beginning of the series, I think it’s off to a bad start because it’s maybe too direct and doesn’t really come across. This is also one of Kevin’s faults… he is not afraid, he is not ashamed, he says things too directly. Together with Sofia, he learns that he has to be sophisticated in life.

Kevin’s past as a thief resurfaces. Will this put her new life in jeopardy?

This will make it difficult for him to integrate into the police force, but it will also make his life difficult. We’ll learn a little bit more about his background, his potential family, who his parents were, where he grew up, why he turned to delinquency… I think those are questions that the audience is asking, but also Kevin. poses. I think all his life he always asked himself:For what ?”

You seem to have a good connection with Thierry Neuvik. Did this alchemy allow you to improvise?

We had to do such things several times and it worked! Directors Alexandre Coffre and Alexis Charrier left us free. And it was cool! They were listening.

It’s great fun making the text your own! With Thierry, we practiced texts in the morning where we had fun changing words because we preferred to say them differently. Or, we just added valves!

Will you be returning to “La Recrue” for a second season? Do you have other projects?

If there’s a second season, I’m all for it because I think there’s still a lot to explore with the characters, including Kevin’s past and also Vincent’s past. As for my other projects, I already have a French BA at the end of the year and I should have it! Otherwise, I had a small role in Fiasco, which came out on April 30th on Netflix. Finally, I have other issues between France and the United States, but I can’t talk about them today.
