Disney+: Unseen for 50 years, this iconic film comes with a new restored version!

This documentary has remained unseen for fifty years, but here it is ready to make its comeback! Let it Be, the film about the recording of the last Beatles album, is released today on Disney+, in a restored and all-new version.

The film is more sensational than realistic

Released in 1970, Let it Be accompanies the Beatles in the making of their final album, culminating in their famous concert on the roof of their company’s Apple Corps in London. Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s film follows a band on the verge of breaking up, leaving the musical aspect of the documentary in the background.

A few years ago, Peter Jackson was offered access to hundreds of hours of footage taken by Michael Lindsay-Hogg at the time. The New Zealand filmmaker thus conveyed his vision through a documentary series called Come Back, which perfectly captured the musical genius of the four boys in the wind.

Long contested by the Beatles and their fans for its sensational tone, Let it Be remained unseen for half a century, at least in film and television (the documentary was released on VHS, but also on very poor quality pirated DVD versions). The film won the Oscar for Best Original Song, which none of the four Beatles came to collect.

Peter Jackson directed the restoration of the film

Following the success of Get Back, Michael Lindsay-Hogg agreed to have his documentary’s images and soundtrack remastered by Park Road Post Production. This restoration was also helmed by Peter Jackson, who was thrilled that Let it Be would complement his documentary series.

Along with its broadcast on Disney+, the film was the subject of a preview at the Lincoln Square Theater in New York. Michael Lindsay-Hogg was in attendance, but not Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr, the last two members of the band still alive. Article from Rolling Stone Released in 2020, it was revealed that only John Lennon had seen the film, leaving him in tears.

The movie Let it Be and the documentary series Get Back are now available exclusively on Disney+.
