Interview with the Vampire is a film that marked a milestone in Kirsten Dunst’s career. The story revolves around a vampire named Louis, played by Brad Pitt, who recounts his immortal life to a journalist, played by Christian Slater. Dunst, just 11 at the time, played Claudia, a girl Louis turns into a vampire.
Kirsten Dunst didn’t enjoy Brad Pitt’s kiss in “Interview with the Vampire”: her reasons
Although the 1994 film adaptation of Anne Rice’s book has become a classic, it has one moment that has caused controversy since its release: the kiss between Louis and Claudia towards the end of the film.
While it’s clearly a fictional moment, in real life, Kirsten Dunst has expressed her distaste for the scene many times.
BuzzFeed points out that, at least in her press interviews at the time, the actress has stated that she found it so “awkward” and “weird” that she “hated” kissing her partner.
That’s because of the age difference between the two: Kirsten Dunst was 11 when she filmed Interview with the Vampire, while Brad Pitt was in his 30s.
“It was weird, you know? Because he’s like an old man and I had to kiss him on the mouth, so it was disgusting,” she had said in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” at the time.
Plus, Dunst considered Pitt a “big brother,” which made her even more uncomfortable on stage.
Over time, the now 42-year-old actress has remained steadfast in her stance on how “awkward” it was to kiss her ‘Interview with the Vampire’ co-star, stressing whenever asked the age gap and close relationship she had with him.
“Even though it was just a kiss on the beak, I didn’t like it,” he repeated in an interview with “Vanity Fair” in 2021.
Of course, on that occasion she also said that “besides that, I was treated like a real princess on set.”
Kirsten Dunst complained about a scene in ‘Interview with the Vampire’
Although, for years, the “Spider-Man” actress has expressed her displeasure with the kiss scene with Brad Pitt, it was actually another moment in the film that sparked her complaints on set.
According to what he said in the aforementioned “Vanity Fair” interview, when he had to bite a woman’s neck, his partner was sweating profusely, prompting him to complain, “That’s the only time I remember complaining to Neil. [Jordan]”.
