Hamas wants calm and a real hostage-for-prisoners deal, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be interested in continuing the war, senior Hamas official Khalil Al-Hayya said on Friday.
“Hamas has not suspended or withdrawn the (ceasefire) negotiations; the occupation has turned against the mediators’ proposal,” Al-Hayya added in comments to Al Araby TV published by Hamas.
The Palestinian militant group said on Friday that efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement for the Gaza Strip have come full circle after Israel effectively rejected a proposal from international mediators.
