If you went to see Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom at the cinema and enjoyed it, it might have made you want to dive back into the old films of the famous Apes saga.
However, did you know that the franchise has had 10 feature films in theaters, including the latest, which was released on May 8? The first and, of course, the most famous remains Franklin J. Schaffner’s 1968 version with Charlton Heston.
Of all these sci-fi works about primates, which one is the best? With a score of 4 out of 5 on AlloCiné, is the original film the license’s best rated? No! You have to go back to 2011 to find the best film in the Planet of the Apes saga.
With a score of 4.1 out of 5 (47,766 average ratings), Les Origines directed by Rupert Wyatt wins the Palm! The story takes us to a laboratory where scientists are experimenting on monkeys to fight Alzheimer’s disease. But their research has unexpected side effects.
They found that the substance used dramatically increased the brain activity of their subjects. Caesar is then the first young chimpanzee to demonstrate remarkable intelligence. But betrayed by the people around him and those he trusted, he leads a rebellion of his entire species in a spectacular battle against man.
What do viewers think?
The vast majority of AlloCiné viewers rated Les Origines between 4 and 5 stars. Walter Mauss tells us all the good things he thought of the work:
“No real monkeys are used in the film! Everything is in CG and the rendering is incredible! Rupert White excels as an original with his direction and cinematography is very effective. The music goes well with the film and is quite attractive. The story is original and the characters are very attractive.
According to PowerKing, “We feel all kinds of emotions, including anger, sadness and compassion. A cinematic fantasy that should be remembered as a sci-fi gem.” Mark L agrees:
Great movie?
“The staging was mastered by the director, who skillfully leads his actors. Special mention Andy Serkis In the role of Caesar, which is played with truly incredible precision. The motion capture of the monkeys is truly impressive in its realism. We come out of the movie with emotions brought to our hearts. Great movie.”
In turn, pyrosand causes “A complete success! The fact that the experiments were introduced adds to the film’s foundation and power, accompanied by a very believable script, all enriched by beautiful music and good performances. Also, the visual effects of Weta are very beautiful and the monkeys are simply amazing.”
If you want to (re)watch Planet of the Apes: Origins, the show is available on Disney+, as are its sequels, The Showdown and Supremacy.
