Stefano Sollima, creator of the Gomorra series and director of Suburra, Sicario 2 or ACAB, will soon direct Will Smith in the thriller Sugar Bandits. It will be a new Hollywood foray for the Italian filmmaker, who directed a spy thriller in 2021 under the direction of Michael B. Jordan.
Will Smith as an elite soldier
According to Deadline, Will Smith will dress up as a former special forces soldier; The latter joins an elite squad of vigilantes who aim to eradicate the drug trade in Boston. He quickly learns that all is not as it seems.
The Sugar Bandits screenplay was written by Chuck Hogan, loosely based on his 2010 novel: Devils in exile. While waiting for the project to start, Stefano Sollima will soon present his new thriller in the cinema: Adagio.
Revenge and Redemption
Directed by Transalpine stars Pierfrancesco Favino and Tony Servilio, the feature film tells a twilight story of revenge and redemption. The release date has not been announced yet.
Solima also directed 4 episodes of the Netflix mini-series, which will soon be released on the platform: Il Mostro. This is the unsolved case of the “Monster of Florence”, a serial killer who committed nine double murders between 1968 and 1985. Despite the investigation, the gun used in each killing, a Beretta .22 caliber, was never found and the killer was never arrested.
On the other hand, Will Smith will return to theaters on June 5 with Bad Boys Ride or Die, the fourth opus in the adventures of supercop Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett. The 55-year-old actor will also soon begin the sequel to I Am Legend.
