The British boxer dies in the ring during his first official match


The boxer was 29 years old and fainted after a blow to the head; the clash occurred in London

A fight of boxing at Harrow Leisure Center in London, ended tragically. The British boxer Sheriff Lawal he died when he collapsed in the ring during the duel against the Portuguese Malan Varela Sunday. The boxer began practicing the sport in 2018, but only turned professional earlier this year and the fight marked his debut in official fighting.




The fight was part of the sport’s middleweight category and was in the fourth round when the fatality occurred. Lawal was hit in the side of the head and fainted. Referee Lee Every started counting the knockouts, but stopped and called paramedics as soon as he noticed the severity of the situation.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed on Lawal for approximately 10 minutes. The athlete was then taken by ambulance to Northwick Park Hospital in the English capital, where he was declared dead.

The British Boxing Council spoke out and expressed its condolences to his family and friends. β€œThe thoughts of everyone involved in British boxing are with them at this difficult time,” he said.

The fighter Tyson Fury he also paid tribute to the boxer and spoke about the dangers of the sport. “When you enter this world (of boxing), you know it’s a dangerous sport. (…) It’s like someone jumping with a parachute, sometimes the parachute doesn’t open and he falls to the ground. That doesn’t stop everyone to jump with a parachute,” he said.
