‘Bridgerton’: Why Netflix Delayed Season 3 Release?

The premiere of ‘Brigerton 3’ on May 16 has fans more than excited after they had to wait a long time to see Colin and Penelope’s love story. We must remember that season 2 of the series arrived on Netflix in March 2022, more than two years ago. Why did the streaming service take so long to launch this installment?

Why was ‘Brigerton 3’ delayed?

Variety spoke with executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers for some answers.

Both said they could not remember whether the Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strikes last year affected production, but said the process of writing and filming the series is so complex and meticulous that it takes time: “There are a lot of characters, a lot of complications and it’s a very complicated story to weave. The writing and thoroughness of the process obviously takes time.”

She added that all the production behind each season further delays her efforts: “It’s a lot of costumes, it’s a lot of learning to dance, it’s a lot of mixing the old and the new. “It’s a giant military puzzle.”

Rhimes commented that Netflix’s methodology also contributes to the delay: “They want to write everything and then they want to shoot everything, which is very antithetical to the way I learned to do television.”

Rhimes didn’t hesitate to say that she finds the process “frustrating,” especially since, from her perspective, “we should be able to write and produce shows at the same time.”

Will the next seasons of Bridgerton be late to premiere?

Despite the limitations, Rhimes and her team are working on ways to speed up the production process.

“We’re really working on the idea if this is the field we live in, how can we make the field faster? And so we’re really thinking about things like permanent sets and stuff, and things like that that will really help us speed up the process,” the producer said.

This is especially important because the series is expected to have 8 seasons, one for each Julia Quinn book.

According to Shonda Rhimes, so far, she and her team have determined the direction of the series by season “6 or 7.”
