Act Two: Quentin Dupierre announces that he will (probably) not promote again!

His words are extremely rare at the beginning of the festival! And for good reason, he announced that he would not give interviews. Filmmaker Quentin Dupierre, director of the second act of Cannes 2024’s opening film, made good on his promise.

For his part, his co-stars have given a few interviews here and there without talking directly about the film, but Quentin Dupierre stuck to what he said in a press note (and also posted an actual press kit on location and location , a useful document for the press to write about the film), which is fully You can see below.

I came here to be polite!– Quentin Dupier laughed mischievously during the ritual rehearsal of the Cannes press conference, which took place this afternoon for the film crew.

I don’t want to come across as a guy who poses or is pretentious or whatever. Besides, I said on the record: the movie says everything I want to say.

I feel stupid repeating myself.

and added: “I feel stupid repeating myself. And less talented, if I may say so, than these brilliant actors. So I’m not going to repeat what was said in the movie, only less, it’s not interesting. So I decided to keep it quiet and it works well because people want to go see the movie. So this is what I am going to reproduce. I get the impression that the less I talk, the more people want to watch my movies!

Will Quentin Dupierre stop promoting his movies forever? It’s not impossible if his comments this morning are to be believed. Sequel to his next film.

What is this new movie, act two?

Two years after Coughing Up Smoke is being presented at a midnight screening at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, Quentin Dupierre Introducing his new comedy with a five-star cast for an event screening!

Running for 1 hour and 16 minutes, the second act promises a crazy new plot full of twists and turns, if the synopsis is to be believed:

No new Dupieux promotions

Here is the note the director sent to reporters explaining his intentions:

“Hello everyone !

Since the release of my first feature film in 2007, I have always devoted myself to press and public relations, clarifying my intentions and supporting the promotion of films, as almost every filmmaker on this planet does.

Lately, the pace of releases has accelerated significantly, and without realizing it, I’ve racked up more media exposure than probably the duration of my 12 films. Shame on you.

Today, as SECOND ACT, my sixth film in four years, my third in one year, prepares to open the Cannes Film Festival and hit theaters, I want to shut up.

Not out of tiredness or pretentiousness, but simply because this film, in very eloquent, well-chosen words, says everything I want to say and already contains its own analysis extremely clearly. Therefore, in my opinion, it would be pointless to listen to the director and his actors paraphrasing a film in which everything is always said and commented on in real time.

  • Cannes Film Festival 2024: Jury, films, expected stars… everything we know about the 77th edition!

The second act hides absolutely nothing. On the other hand, to convey this thing and let you talk about it in your own words is a particularly gratifying and exciting moment for all of us. We really look forward to your criticism, comments or insults.

You’ll notice that this text is boring as rain, but the movie in question is much less so. Another clear proof that it’s time to shut up.

The floor is yours!

Quentin Dupuis
