The regional electoral inspector, Judge Peterson Barroso Simão, voted on Friday the 17th in favor of the impeachment, maximum fine and ineligibility of Cláudio Castro (PL), governor of Rio de Janeiro. Simão recognized that there had been an abuse of political and economic power in the 2022 elections, therefore, based on the trial records, he voted to impeach Castro and make him ineligible for 8 years after 2022. Furthermore, Castro can pay a maximum fine of R. 106,410 dollars, due to the “seriousness of the facts revealed”.
In the vote, deputy governor Thiago Pampolha (MDB) was also cited for having had his diplomas revoked and, in his case, for having paid a fine of R$21,282. Having entered the election campaign about a month before the elections, the speaker did not call for Thiago’s ineligibility.
The rapporteur also requested the ineligibility of the former president of the Ceperj Foundation (State Center for Statistics, Research and Training of Public Employees of Rio de Janeiro), Gabriel Rodrigues Lopes, and the payment of the maximum fine, of the same amount indicated for Castro .
As regards the president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), deputy Rodrigo Bacellar (União Brasil), the indication was impeachment, ineligibility and maximum fine.

In total there are more than 10 people involved in the case. They are being tried for alleged abuses of economic, political power and authority and for alleged misuse of the media.
