Creator Eric Kripke revealed that the final season of the Prime Video series will focus on a resistance against a fascist government, promising the most political and explosive chapter of the series
The long-awaited final season of The Boys promises to be the most political of the Prime Video series so far. The creator Eric Kripke revealed, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporterthat the new episodes will delve once and for all into themes linked to resistance and the fight against authoritarian regimes — or, in his words, “a fascist government”.
Kripke revealed that the final season will continue the events of the spin-off Gen Vwhich ended with A-Train (Jessie Usher) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) recruiting Godolkin’s Guardians for a resistance. “Part of the fun of ending Gen V this way is that it sets the stage for season five, where there is now an active and growing resistance, led by Starlight — and of which A-Train is an important part.”, explained the showrunner.
According to him, the plot will show a direct clash against Homelander, the authoritarian superhero played by Anthony Starrwhose influence over the population and the government reached almost totalitarian levels. “They are trying to fight back, but they are at a disadvantage. It’s an entire country that drank the Homelander Kool-Aid. There are hundreds of superheroes with authority over the police. It’s a true underground resistance against a fascist government“, he said Kripkewith irony about the obvious similarities with the current political scenario.
In addition to the political arc, the creator promised that the series will maintain a balance between the main plots and connections with Gen V. “It’s still about The Boys. You can watch without having seen the spin-off, but seeing both makes the experience much more fun”, he stated.
The Boys has also maintained a strong dialogue with the public online, something that Kripke admits seeing it with mixed feelings. He recently commented that he was “irritated” with fans who discovered in advance a twist in Gen V: “I give them credit, but at the same time I get irritated”, he joked.
