Caleb, 24, is a programmer at one of the world’s largest IT companies. When she wins a competition to spend a week at a remote mountain retreat owned by Nathan, the lonely CEO of her company, she discovers that she will actually have to take part in a strange and fascinating experiment in which she will have to interact with the former. Artificial intelligence in the world, which takes the form of an amazing female robot…
A favorite screenwriter of Danny Boyle, for whom he penned the scripts for The Beach, the superbly effective (and iconic!) 28 Days Later and the excellent Sunshine (which we still think is hugely underrated), Alex Garland has brilliantly gone through the directorial stages. Signed his first feature film in 2015: Ex Machina.
Justly awarded the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and the Jury Prize at the Gérardmer International Festival, this rather brilliant sci-fi film explores the figure of artificial intelligence, drawing inspiration from the work of roboticist Murray Shanahan.
A specialist who worked on artificial intelligence in the 1980s, when mainstream thinking held that a machine could be programmed to mimic human intelligence using predetermined conditions. This is also the roboticist’s book that inspired the movie.
The excellent trio of actors (Alicia Vikander, Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson) are on top. Former Machina It offers behind closed doors both comforting and terrifyingly disturbing, and in some ways a forerunner, even though the topic of artificial intelligence is more in the news than ever, regularly making giant leaps.
It cannot be said that this first film from the upcoming Civil War director completely missed the audience upon its release. It didn’t even attract 70,000 viewers in France. While the work has gained a flattering reputation among moviegoers over the years, there are still quite a few people who evangelize around this piece of junk.
That’s good, it’s available on Netflix!
