During a press conference at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Francis Ford Coppola explained how the existence of streaming can help the industry
One of the greatest directors in the history of Hollywoodresponsible for acclaimed films such as The Godfather (1972), Apocalypse Now (1979), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) and The Conversation (1974), Francis Ford Coppola criticized the current state of cinema around the world.
During a press conference at Cannes Film Festival 2024where he premiered the next film in his career, titled Megalopolis, Coppola expressed opined how studios are primarily focused on making money due to high debt levels.
“I fear that the film industry has become more about people being hired to meet debt obligations because the studios are very, very in debt,” the filmmaker said (via Variety). “And the job is not so much to make good films as to make sure they pay their dues.”
He then commented on how streaming services can disrupt the old system and potentially have a positive impact on the industry: “Obviously, new companies like Amazon, Apple It is Microsoft They have a lot of money, so it may be that the studios we’ve known for so long, some of them wonderful, won’t be here in the future.”
