Actor Jay Hernandez took to Twitter this Sunday (7/3) to thank fans for the support and campaigns that led to the rescue of “Magnum”. The series will return for another two seasons on the American network NBC, after being canceled in May by CBS.

“Okay, I’m sure you’ve all heard the great news by now,” the Magnum performer said in the video. “‘Magnum’ is going to have a fifth season. Thanks to the fans for the huge effort. I mean, you guys have petitioned, you guys have put up a billboard in Times Square. Because of all the noise you’ve made, now we have a new home to NBC. See you in season 5! “

The video was posted after a previous thank you message. “It was a little sneaky, but we did it!” Hernandez tweeted on Friday (7/1). “Your love and support helped us to cross the finish line, thanks and thanks also to NBC for taking responsibility! Time to dust off your Aloha! Ohana shirt.”

Friday was the day the NBC network gave the green light to the producers of “Magnum” to develop two new seasons of the attraction, with 10 episodes each.

The deal was facilitated by Universal Television’s participation in the production of the series, in collaboration with CBS Studios. Universal Television is part of the same conglomerate (NBCUniversal) as the NBC channel. Additionally, NBC has already had success with saving another series canceled by its rival: after being canceled by Fox, the comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is back with 71% more ratings on NBC in 2019.

CBS ‘decision to cancel “Magnum” came as a shock to both producers and the market, as the show with Jay Hernandez and set in Hawaii averaged approximately 7.4 million admissions and exceeded its time. broadcast on Friday nights in the United States.

The series was the last production from CBS Studios created by Peter M. Lenkov, after the producer was fired in 2020 on charges of misconduct in the workplace. He was also responsible for the previously canceled “Hawai Five-0” and “MacGyver” reboots.

Jay Hernandez (El Diablo from the movie “Suicide Squad”) experienced the new version of the private detective immortalized by Tom Selleck in the 80s, who this time appeared accompanied by a partner: the Welsh actress Perdita Weeks (“Penny Dreadful” ), in a reinvention of the role of Higgins.

“Magnum” is made available for streaming in Brazil by Globoplay and the channel change in the United States is not expected to change that agreement.
