The suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy and violent abolition of the democratic rule of law after blocking highways to protest Lula’s victory over Bolsonaro
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) reported this Monday 20 to the Federal Supreme Court nine people suspected of involvement in acts of closure of federal highways after the blocking of the second round of the 2022 presidential elections by former president Jair Bolsonaro highways throughout Brazil against the defeat of the presidential re-election candidate.
The request was presented by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, asking the minister and president of the STF, Alexandre de Moraes, that the suspects in the case become defendants to answer for the facts of criminal association and violent abolition of the democratic state of right.
The defendants are linked to the Bremer business group. Among them are Horst Bremer Junior and Lilian Bremer Vogelbacher, directors of the company. According to the complaint, evidence shows that the defendant participated in checkpoints in Santa Catarina on two dates: October 30 and November 7, 2020.
Gonet says businessmen joined officials and “blocked the BR-470 federal highway in Rio do Sul/SC,” with concrete blocks, wooden logs and poles. As well as carrying banners with messages calling for the closure of the STF and military intervention. Also according to the PGR, the movements to block the highways are linked to the coup attacks of January 8 in Brasilia.
The defense says it understands that the complaint is a “natural step” within the democratic rule of law. He also claims to have faith in state institutions and, if the accusation is accepted, “with the opening of cross-examination and a full defence, acquittal will be the only way forward”, conclude the lawyers.
