The first four chapters of ‘Brigerton 3’ have given social networks a lot to talk about, as they uniquely show Colin Bridgerton’s romance with Penelope Featherington, the woman who has been his friend for years.
Cressida Cowper in “Brigerton 3”: Major changes in her story from book to screen
As expected, Netflix made major changes to the show, and perhaps the most notable is the evolution of Cressida Cowper’s character. In this new season, she is a high society girl who maintains a friendship with Eloise Bridgerton and is desperately looking for a husband due to pressure from her parents, as she has been single for several years, as well as her family suffering from a lack of money.
So he decides to conquer Lord Dembling and, along the way, antagonize Penelope, a person he doesn’t like, so he does everything possible to publicly embarrass her, such as “accidentally” ripping her dress.
While this is the general overview the series gave of her, it turns out that in Julia Quinn’s books, Cressida has a completely different story in the TV drama, given Cressida’s failure to find a husband on her own her parents threaten to bind her to violence. However, in the text “I give you my heart”, where Benedict Bridgerton’s romance with Sophie Beckett is discussed, it is confirmed that he is marrying a nobleman named Lord Twombley.
This means that, according to the original story, Cressida gets married before Penelope and is not a spinster as she is shown in the chapters.
Although the young woman of high society, after her marriage, thinks that she will have a life of luxury and without problems, it turns out to be just the opposite, since Lord Twombley dies before the beginning of the fourth book “Seducing Mr. Bridgerton.” , which leaves her in a widowed position and with a low financial situation.
Later, Lady Danbury offers a thousand pound reward to anyone who discovers Lady Whistledown’s identity and, in order to get the money, she admits that she is the one who wrote the high society gossip, but no one really believes her.
To expose her, Penelope writes an article to expose her as a fraud, which causes her to realize Lady Whistledown’s true identity and blackmail the young redhead with money into not giving her away.
Given this, Colin devises a plan with his family to reveal Penelope’s identity before Cressida can expose her, which occurs at a ball hosted by Daphne and her husband Simon Bassett. After this, all of the Bridgertons continue to be accepted into high society, while Cressida goes into exile.
At the moment, the book’s young Cressida and Netflix share a vulnerable financial situation, albeit due to different circumstances, which could suggest that in future chapters the plan to play Lady Whistledown and thus gain money will be maintained.
Although in the book Cressida has a tragic end, in this new TV version of the story she could be given a different outcome, such as being forgiven by the queen and society or ending up meeting Lord Twombley to get married, but this is exactly what you will see next July 13, the day the second part of “Brigerton 3” arrives.
